OVERVIEW
People nowadays forget to track their daily water intake. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. This project began with my passive observations on people's behaviors choosing all the other beverages over water, ignoring dehydration and fatigue issues. I wanted to create a simple water reminder app that monitors water intake and helps in reminding them to drink water regularly.

RESEARCH
During my research, I found people tend to forget to drink water because of their busy work-life and prefer sugary drinks like soft drinks, sweet-flavored drinks, etc they're not enjoying the bland taste of plain water.
Research in the google play store has led me to find many other water reminder apps in play store like water tracker, water drink reminder, plant nanny but those were not user friendly and had complex interface design based on the multi-methodology research I conducted.
INSIGHTS & FINDINGS
Starting with the short interviewed a few of my peers to gain an understanding of the needs below was the requirement based on the findings:
-
Simple user-friendly water intake reminder app that can improve drinking habits in a natural and friendly way
-
Current water intake indicator
-
Quick add amount button
-
It includes goal settings along with the feedback expression
-
Monitors daily, weekly & monthly water intake

DESIGN PROCESS
Keeping the aesthetics of the application with simple and elegant design which would be easy to use, interactive and navigate, below is the design process that I followed.
INSPIRATION BOARD
Before getting started with the visual design I create an inspiration board/mood board to learn more about the visual world and gathering inspiration from other water reminder apps.
COLOR PALETTE
I picked a variation of blue which represents water and symbolizes nature, life, health & relaxation. Additionally, I introduced grey for the text and non-active
state and included a white as well to give a calm and clean appearance.

TYPOGRAPHY
Helvetica Neue is a free font that was a very well-balanced known sans serif superfamily typeface that seems to complement the interface. Keeping
simplicity in mind, I decided to go with just one font family.

ICONS & ILLUSTRATION
Icons & illustrations are an important part of the design. They communicate ideas and concepts without words. Furthermore, they allow consistency of
the visual aesthetics that help build the user's trust and produce moment
of delight.
FINAL DESIGN
The goal of the app is to collect information about the user's daily water intake and make it tailored to their needs and requirements. The critical part was to have the user answer a few questions without getting discouraged and turn off the app. This step requires a simple user-friendly interface. Numbering the questions, a screen showing current water intake, water intake reminder, quick selection of bottles/glasses, profile, progression bar, performance, and setting links were some of the solutions I used to ease the process.
I emphasized the current water intake and quick amount selection because these are the most crucial and useful in creating a successful experience.
